HC Girls’ Soccer Drops Tough One to Denison-Schleswig, 2-0 -

(4-27-26) – The effort was there, by the Cyclones fell just short.

Harlan Community girls’ soccer fought hard but couldn’t tickle the twine as they fell to Hawkeye 10 rival Denison-Schleswig, 2-0, at Merrill Field on Monday.

Sophomore Abbie Anderson said the Cyclones expected a tough contest from the Monarchs.

“It was very rough out there. It was a very physical game. I say a lot of people put their work into it from getting the ball and going after the ball, defense and offense, both put their work in. But equally, I think we did really good.”

Cyclone Coach Chelsey Buman felt her team played their game despite the loss.

“We talked about it at half, just coming in and coming strong, holding the ball on their side of the field. We talked about looking for passes more, finding passes more, making runs, and the girls really ate up those words, as you've seen. They kept the ball on their half. We had a couple that came through, but we definitely held the tempo. So I'm proud of that fact.”

The loss puts Harlan Community at 4-3 on the season, but Buman likes how her girls are progressing through this season.

“We're definitely getting there. We have a lot of new girls and we have returning girls. So it's all meshing, it's all clicking together, it's slowly coming together, which is something that we like to see.”

Anderson also likes how the team is coming together.

“I would say this year we're talking a lot more and we're putting more work in. As a team, we're more connected. We're talking more. I would say our offense is more physical. We're looking up and we're doing really good.”

The Cyclone girls’ is next scheduled to face Glenwood at Creighton University’s Morrison Stadium on Thursday.
