Healthy Cyclones Boys' BB Team Looks to Continue to Roll in 2023 –

(12-29-22) – Harlan Community boys basketball Coach Mitch Osborn says he’s feeling better and looking forward to taking on the second half to their season.

"I've been sick a couple of other times and have fought through it, but this one here I knew I couldn't," Osborn told KNOD Sports Wednesday. "Kevin (Osborn), Swanny (Chad Swanson, and Dean Mosher. Terrific job. Three games; won all three. And after the Denison game, things looked a little doom and gloom for us because we got hammered that night. But we got the Blair win the next night and rattled off, beat Glenwood, Red Oak, and down the road at Clarinda and then our players really stepped up."

Coach Osborn missed the final three games before the break due pneumonia but Harlan Community didn't miss a beat. The Cyclones won their last four games and went into the holiday break with a 5-1 record.

Also feeling better for the Harlan Community boys’ are Quinn Koesters, who should return from a leg injury shortly after the new year and top-ranked point guard Brad Curren, who will be back in action against Lewis Central on Tuesday. (KNOD 105.3FM)

Osborn is excited about Curren's return.

"When you're bringing down a potential all-state guard that brings a lot to the table."

"Brad had a terrific summer and he's gonna get an opportunity to play college basketball... Brad is a drop-dead, knock-down 3-point shooter. Very solid defender. Great at penetration and finishing. Plus, he brings back experience.; a 2-year starter, 1st-team all-conference."

Osborn also feels Curren will be a big contributor to a transition game he'd like to see improve.

"We wanna get a few more buckets in transition. Push the ball a little more. I think with Brad back that's gonna help us."

Continuing with a strong half-court trap will also be key to the Cyclones success the rest of the season.

As for starting the new year against Hawkeye Ten rival Lewis Central, Osborn knows it's gonna be a tough match-up.

"I expect it to be a very big battle. Physical battle. We just gotta go out and do our best."
