It’s Riverside-Treynor to Battle for WIC Volleyball Championship –

(10-14-25) – Death, taxes, and Riverside-Treynor in the WIC Volleyball Championship Match.

It seems like the inevitable result as the Bulldogs and Cardinals will meet for a 4th consecutive year after getting wins in Western Iowa Conference Volleyball Tournament Semifinals on at AHSTW High School in Avoca on Tuesday.

Treynor took care of Missouri Valley in straight-sets, 25-16, 25-17, 25-21. Rylee Hemmingsen, who had 10 kills and 5 aces for the Cardinals talked to KNOD Sports about the camaraderie the team has this season.

“We all work really well together, so it's really easy to just know that anybody can get the ball and anybody can get it down.”

Hemmingsen says communication with setters Stella Sornson and Lila Eitmann has led to the success of her and her fellow hitters this season.

“I think this year we're really good about telling them when we need change and they're really good about changing it too and so we just know they're going to get the ball where we need it to be.”

Nora Konz led Treynor with 15 kills while Khloe Stoops had 11 kills and Claire Myler had 15 assists for Missouri Valley.

In the second semifinal contest, Riverside cruised to their fourth consecutive WIC final defeating Underwood in straight-sets, 25-11, 25-15, 25-13, as Sydney Somers did it all, leading the way with 15 kills, 4 aces, and kill efficiency of .542.

Libero Sophia Fenner had 15 digs, several that saved points for the Bulldogs. She likes the versatility her team has at this point of the season.

“That's huge for us because we don't just rely on one player. All of us are so well-rounded and so that means if one person's having an off day, the rest of us are able to step up and still compete for our team and that's what I think helps us the most.”

Vivian Gross has been a defensive specialist for Riverside all season. The sophomore likes the support she gets from her teammates.

“I think our team just, they're really good to each other. They're always so supportive. You miss a hit and they just go up to you and they just I just love you and it's really nice like to see.”

Meanwhile, for Fenner, the team’s mission on the season remains the same.

“We have more that we want to do, and we want to keep going, so we don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

Bentley Rone had 12 assists for Riverside. Underwood’s Carly Nelson had 5 kills and Kayley Ambrose had 11 digs in the loss.

Treynor and Riverside will meet in the Western Iowa Conference Championship Match Thursday at AHSTW High School in Avoca. In the consolation match, it will be Missouri Valley against Underwood.
