Jens Wins Hawkeye 10 Wrestling Title, Cyclone Boys’ Finish 5th –

(2-1-25) – Going out as a champion is always the goal of athletes. One Cyclone wrestler took the first step in that journey.

Jesse Jens won the 126lb title at the Hawkeye 10 Wrestling Tournament in Denison Saturday. Jens, who improved to 42-2 on the season, got a pin and two decisions on his way to the championship.

Harlan Community finished 5th overall with 136.5 points. Atlantic was your winner with 236.5, 9.5 points better than 2nd place Lewis Central.

Jens won his quarterfinal match by pinning Brody Pellett of St. Albert. He then won a 4-0 decision over Lewis Central’s Owen Duffek before gaining a 10-0 majority decision over Dayton Gusman of Red Oak in championship match.

The Cyclones got a 2nd place finish from Brody McKinley at 150lbs, and 3rd place finishes from Nathan Sandquist at 106lbs, Spencer Fink at 120lbs, and Brody Bendorf at 175lbs.

Harlan Community’s boys’ wrestling team will now prepare for regional duals on Tuesday and a quad with Lewis Central, Underwood, and Riverside next Saturday, before competing in district wrestling at Glenwood on Saturday, February 15th.
