Koos Relays Allows Home Fans to See Cyclone Girls’ Track Shine –

(4-9-25) – Track & field is a short season where teams spend most of their time on the road. So when teams get to compete in front of their home crowd… they embrace it.

“It really helps to have just the support of the crowds for the community coming down to cheer them on,” said Cyclone girls’ track Coach Jenny Hamilton. “We're excited to put them out there and put a show on, hopefully, for our community.”

Harlan Community girls’ track will get to showcase their abilities in front of the home crowd during the Koos Relays at Merrill Field on Thursday.

The event comes after a 3rd place finish for the Cyclone girls’ at the Monarch Relays last Thursday when they scored points in 17 of the 19 events.

“We had 20 different athletes score points somewhere. That's really exciting for us that we put responsibility on each individual to show up and compete and do their job. So, that was really exciting when we can share the success like that.”

Now that season is heading into the final stretch, Hamilton says their wrapping up their “experiment phase”.

“We try to encourage our athletes just to take advantage of competition. It is all about how you compete mentally, physically, emotionally, like how you prepare for competition, how you show up focused and ready to go for competition, and then just how you get after it when it's time for battle.”

The Koos Relays will also be a time to honor Cyclone senior track members: Abby Brockelman, Lindsey Sonderman, Jaylee Schmitz, Brylee Schechinger.
