“Passion for Volleyball” Drives New HC Volleyball Coach Brown –

(1-24-25) – Turning athletes into volleyball players. That’s just one of the things new Harlan Community volleyball Coach Amber Brown enjoys about the sport.

Brown talked with KNOD Sports about the philosophy she’ll be bringing to her team this fall.

“Believe in coaching the fundamentals of the game with consistent feedback and positive reinforcement. If I'm asking a girl to make a change fundamentally and she gets it, she needs to know that she's doing a good job getting it.”

Brown has more than a decade of experience in coaching. She was an assistant coach for the College of St. Mary’s, coached with Premier Nebraska, as a JV coach in Harlan while also starting her own club here for 6th and 7th graders. It will give her a connection to the young players she will eventually have at the varsity level.

It’s the teaching of the game that Brown enjoys.

“My biggest thing with volleyball is I have a huge passion for volleyball and I just want to share that passion with these fellow female athletes that I get to work with.”

Brown believes fundamentals and knowledge of the game will help create a solid foundation for the team.

“Those two things put together, I think, can really make a good player and put together a really good team.”

Brown also wants those interested in coming out for the team to know they’ll also have fun.

“We're going to have fun everyday and practice in some way, shape or form, and we're not going to sweat the small stuff, but we're going to work through stuff together and I'm just here to support them and create better volleyball players.”

Brown takes over a Cyclone team that finished 9-22 a season ago.
