Lo-Ma Boys’ BKB Moves on w/ Win over Exira-EHK, 58-45 –

(2-13-26) – It all came together at the right time for the Panthers.

Cale Cunard had 23 pts as Logan-Magnolia used terrific ball movement and excellent rebounding to hold on for a 58-45 win over Exira-EHK in the 1A-District 15 Play-In Game Friday.

The Panthers used an 18-3 run to build a 1st half lead over the Spartans that wouldn’t be relinquished. Jason Kastner and Aiden King would combine for four 3-ptrs in the first 16 minutes of the contest to lead the way.

Cunard scored 15 of his points in the 2nd half. He talked about adjustments he made after a slow start to the contest.

“I think a lot of it was just driving to the basket, definitely. Like trying to see those, seeing those openings in between everybody. And because the outside shots, I mean, I only had like two of them or so, but they weren't falling. So we had to resort to other options.”

The Panthers then went on a 7-1 run to start the 2nd half and build a 14-pt lead, but the Spartans continued to battle back, going on a 10-3 run to end the 3rd qtr make it a 7-pt game.

But it was too much Cunard down the stretch as his last 6 pts were from the free throw line to clinch the win.

Adam Roden was a point away from a double-double for Logan-Magnolia with 9 pts and 13 rebounds. He talked about the importance of crashing the boards.

“It's a really big part of the game,” said Roden. “Getting those boards really important, makes you have more possessions and just, you know, stops them from scoring as much.”

Cunard believes he’s seen a lot of positives with the Panthers, despite their overall record.

“I definitely have seen a lot of improvement from like game one to even now. I mean, we're just starting to figure out how we can move the ball and we're seeing passing lanes a lot better and I think overall we've just improved a lot from where we started.”

Keeping things positive is something Roden feels will help Logan-Magnolia’s young team in the future.

“I mean, we got a lot of young boys in the court and with that, you know, sometimes some plays might not go their way. You just got to keep encouraging them, you know, for the future of Logan.”

Austin Rasmussen had 20 pts in his final game for the Spartans, who ended their season 1-20. The Panthers (3-20) will face 5th-ranked Coon Rapids-Bayard in the 1A-District 15 quarterfinals on Monday.
