MACK-lin ATTACK: Loftus Dominates on Mound, at Plate in Lo-Ma BB Win, 14-3 –

(7-7-26) – His arm was expected. His bat was a bonus.

Macklin Loftus pitched 4 no-hit innings with 10 strikeouts, including the last 9 batters he faced, plus was 2 for 2 with a homer and 5 RBI in Lo-Ma’s 14-3 win over St. Albert in the 1A-District 2 semifinals.

Loftus saw his state-leading ERA drop to 0.16 with his performance. He also struck out his 100th batter of the season during the game and now has 105 on the season, 5th best in the state… in just 43.1 innings!

The Panthers Keenan Kuhlman talked about what it’s like to have Loftus on his side.

“It's nice to have him on our side because he's just a dominant player. He can strike out 18 people and hit a home run out there. He's just really strong and really invested in the game of baseball.”

While Loftus was dealing, Logan-Magnolia’s offense jumped out to an early lead by getting 6 runs in the 1st, helped by RBI hits from Cunard, Kuhlman, Loftus, and Crosby Yoder. The Panthers increased their lead in the 2nd with 3 more runs and then Loftus dealt the big blow at the plate with a 3-run homer in a 5-run 4th.

Kuhlman himself was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI. He believes this young Panther team is capable of anything this postseason.

“I've seen in past years we've been an average team and now with the upcoming rising young players, we're like a really young team, younger than most teams and it's just a great feeling to know that we're going to be set for now and the future.”

Benny Johnsen drove in 2 runs with a 5th inning double for the Falcons, who’s season ends at 8-29.

Logan-Magnolia will host Hwy 30 rival Woodbine for the district championship game on Saturday.
