Miscues Cost HC Softball Against St. Albert, 9-2 -

(6-17-25) – A host of errors would lead to their demise.

Harlan Community dropped a 9-2 decision to the St. Albert Tuesday as the Saintes capitalized on six Cyclone errors.

Harlan Community Co-Coach Brett Croghan feels the defensive issues with his team are mostly a matter of confidence in making plays.

“We really want to work on the mental side of the game. The confidence. (If) the ball is gonna come to me, I'm going to make the play and everything after that should flow.”

St. Albert jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st after a pair of errors gave the Saintes traffic on the bases to allow Leighton Finnegan and McKayla Markel to drive in a run each. They would score three more runs in the 3rd, again started by a Cyclone error, to have a 6-0 advantage.

It allowed pitcher Ella Narmi to pitch with confidence and take advantage of an aggressive Harlan Community lineup. Narmi gave up just 2 runs in 7 innings of work while striking out 5.

Camryn Goshorn struck out 7 in 4 innings of relief while allowing just 1 earned run for the Cyclones. Croghan likes the aggressiveness she’s taken this year of getting ahead of hitters.

“The one thing that she's been working on this year is getting on top of hitters. It's one thing that she has done a really good job and taking a big step of, so getting on top of hitters and then going after him when she's on top has been something we've been really proud of her for.”

Harlan Community’s Suzy Kenkel had an RBI triple for Harlan Community, who fall to 1 and 16 on the season and have lost 13 in a row.
