Miscues Late Sees Harlan Community SB Lose to A.L., 4-2 –

(6-19-24) – Miscues can always be expected with a young team. But it’s when they occur that can make a difference.

For the 2nd straight game, Harlan Community softball had the lead heading into the 5th inning or later, only to have a series of errors cost them the game, as they fell to Abraham Lincoln by a final of 4-2.

Five errors in the final two innings lead to all the runs scored by Lynx being unearned. It would mar an otherwise a real good defensive game by the Cyclones, who threw two runners out at the plate and had a terrific running catch by Aubree Wegner and great stab by Lily Albertsen to start a line-out double play.

Carleigh Goshorn drove in Harlan Community’s only two runs in the 4th with a single, the final in 3 consecutive hits with two outs that gave them the lead midway through the contest.

But young Abraham Lincoln hurler Jocelyn Ridder would shut the door after that, not allowing a hit and only one base runner the rest of the way for the complete game victory. She struck out 11 and walked only 2.

Lauren Schmitz started for Harlan Community and tossed 3 shut out innings, giving up 4 hits and striking out 4. Camryn Goshorn relieved her in the 4th and gave up the 4 unearned runs on just one hit. She did walk 4 and strikeout 8.

Harlan Community will have a difficult test at home Thursday as the face Hawkeye 10 rival Atlantic at 5:30pm.
