Mo Valley SB Wins Pitcher’s Duel w/ AHSTW, 4-1 –

(6-3-25) - Weather forced a change of venue for Missouri Valley and AHSTW, allowing a young hero to come up with a big hit in front of the home fans.

Freshman Kaitlyn Evans hit a 2-run double in the bottom of the 6th to give her team the first lead of the game as Missouri Valley came away with a 4-1 over AHSTW.

Evans, who was 2 for 2 on the evening, was even surprised her game-winning shot.

“When I stepped into the plate, I was just thinking I just need to get on top of the ball. Base hits scores two and next thing I know it's at the center field fence.”

The game was a pitchers duel for the first 5 innings with the Lady Reds Audrie Kohl and Lady Vikes Sienna Christian going toe-to-toe throwing up blanks and getting solid defense. Kohl allowed just 1 hit and stuck out 10, including the 900th of her career to get the win.

Evans says Kohl has helped make the transition from Logan-Magnolia a season ago a smooth one.

“It’s such a good environment and Audrey makes it really fun. She's always like, ‘Dugout needs to stay up! They need to stay up.’ And she's just so positive, and it's just fun with her.”

Christian gave up 3 earned runs and struck out 2 in 6 innings of work for the Lady Vikes to get the hard luck loss. She gave up just 3 hits through the first 5 innings and didn’t allow a runner in to scoring position until 2 outs in the 5th, shutting down a line up that hit 12 homers and scored 61 runs in their first 8 games on the year.

AHSTW’s Loralie Wahling scored after a dropped ball in the outfield then an errant throw to the infield allowed her to give her team the lead in the top of the 6th before Missouri Valley got their 4-runs to win the game. Lady Vikes catcher Claire Pace had their only hit, a double in the 4th.
