Mo Valley VB Dominates in Straight-Set Win over Underwood -

(10-1-26) – Sometimes you just need to say the right thing to get… motivated.

Missouri Valley heard it from their coach, Megan West, and the message came across in a solid straight-set victory Western Iowa Conference rival Underwood, 25-14, 25-16, 25-16, on Senior Night and Pink Out Night Thursday.

It was a series of runs that would be the difference in the contest. The Lady Reds would score 9 consecutive points in Set 1 to roll to the win. Then the Eagles would start hot in Set 2, going on an 8-1 run, but Missouri Valley quickly flipped the script, getting 15 of the next 17 points and earning the set win.

Senior Khloee Stoops would lead the Lady Reds with 13 kills. Stoops knew scoring wouldn’t be an easy task with Cymber Tierney, the WIC assist leader on the season, out with a injury.

“We knew going into today it was going to be kind of hard because we're missing our key setter Cymber from last game because she got injured. So, I feel like we worked a lot on our new rotation yesterday. So, I feel like getting our setters ready, that helped us a lot and getting our background, just staying in the positive mindset because we've been kind of down from losing a lot. So, I feel like now that we got a win, it's going to help us in the future too.”

Izzy Vogel and McKenna Maasen filled in perfectly for Tierney, combining for 21 assists. Dilynn Myler had 7 kills for Missouri Valley. Stoops talked about what she’s passed along to her sophomore teammate.

“Dylan's my best friend. I try to help her as much as I can. Being young, you know, it's hard to have that positive mindset. So, I've kind of taught her to stay positive, to keep her energy, and just to look for shots and she plays clubs, so she pretty much knows what to do and she's honestly helped me more, I feel like, than I've helped her.”

Stoops first kill of the evening was the 1000th of her career. She talked about what it meant to accomplish the feat for the Lady Reds.

“It really means a lot and I'm just very happy and I couldn't have done without my team, without my setters of course, without my back row, without my coaches. I have to give credit to everyone.”

Underwood was led by Kennady Brown’s 6 kills. The Eagles falls to 8-17 overall and 1-6 in WIC play and face Shenandoah in their final match before the WIC Tournament on Thursday.

Missouri Valley is now 19-7 overall, including 3-4 in conference play. The Lady Reds will participate in the Thomas Jefferson tournament this weekend.
