Moser Building a Foundation to Try and Get Cyclone Boys’ BB on the Winning Track -

(1-5-26) – A .500 record at the break was not what the Cyclone boys’ basketball team expected. But Coach Dean Moser knows that his young team is still learning to work together.

“It's new for quite a few of them, or almost all of them, for who they're working with and who they're playing with as a collective unit, you know, on the varsity floor. So, it's nice that it's early yet and we're working through some stuff and I just got to look at the best opportunity and best position for everybody to be successful.”

Harlan Community has done a good job scoring, averaging 56.7 PPG. But the defensive has been a struggle, allowing 57.7 PAPG as teams are shooting 37 percent from the floor against them. Moser feels the combativeness from his players is there.

“Our aggressiveness I've really liked and overall, a lot of our defensive possessions have started off well, just finishing those possessions.”

Moser is grateful his team had the holiday break to work on some fundamentals as they prepare for the second portion of their season.

“It's nice that we have a long break so I can look at some things and, you know, maybe tweak a couple things here and there, but we'll get in the gym and get a lot of shots up and look at what we need to do to put ourselves in a good position going forward.”

The Cyclone boys’ basketball team will begin 2026 with a contest against Hawkeye Ten rival Lewis Central at The Palace in Harlan Tuesday.
