Mosher Named New HC Boys’ Basketball Coach –

(3-6-25) – New title for a familiar coach.

Harlan Community looked to their own boys’ basketball staff for their next varsity head coach, choosing assistant Dean Mosher on Thursday. He’s not planning on making many adjustments while still wanting to implement his own philosophy.

“There’s some things that are gonna change but not gonna try to reinvent the wheel. I want to make it fun for them.”

Mosher is replacing legendary Coach Mitch Osborn, who announced his retirement in January. He plans to bring some of the things that Osborn has shown over his career and a new group of athletes.

“I want to make them to want to be in the gym, want to come and shoot, want give me a text and open up the gym on off days or whatever and just bringing that passion like Coach Osborn has to a different generation and younger kids to wanna be in there.”

Mosher has been with Harlan Community for the last 5 years where he helped coach 8th grade basketball, then freshman boys’ basketball under Osborn for the last 3. He’s had the opportunity to not only learn from Osborn, but his fellow assistants, Chad Swanson, Kevin Osborn and Thomas Fink.

“Just been here and learning from them and growing and finally got the opportunity or the chance to keep growing and learning and then this came about and fortunate enough to get the job. So, I’m excited about it.”

Part of what Mosher hopes to implement is a defensive mentality that leads to transition points.

“Hopefully I can turn the guys into a defensive team, first off, and I like how it turns into maybe some easy buckets on the offensive side.”
