(6-23-25) - It was a top-ranked match-up in the Western Iowa Conference Monday.

3A #12 Missouri Valley hosted 1A #8 Riverside and the Lady Reds got the scoring going early as Audrie Kohl’s 2-run jack started the scoring and led to a 4-run first as Missouri Valley cruised to an 8-0 victory over Riverside in five innings.

Lady Reds leadoff hitter Dilynn Meade was 2 for 3 with a triple, an RBI, and 3 runs scored. Meade talked to KNOD Sports about their aggressive approach against Bulldogs pitcher Peyton Schaefer.

“We knew she's gonna put it in there for us and if we just sat there and drive it, then we knew we were gonna get the job done.”

Kohl had 3 RBI, going 1-2 at the plate and also pitched 5 innings of 1-hit ball while striking out 6. She is now 9 strikeouts away from tying the Missouri Valley school record set by Creighton softball Coach Krista Wood. Meade talks about playing with a talent like Kohl.

“It’s been amazing. She's such a great player and a great leader for the whole team and it's just an honor to get to play with her.”

The victory avenges an earlier loss to the Bulldogs and now has them tied for the conference lead. Wins like this help with the confidence level of the Lady Reds, according to Meade.

“We've had some adversity that we've had to face, but I think just coming ready to play the next time play teams and being better, it just helped us a lot.”
