New Look Tigers Girls’ BB Looking to Continue Recent Success –

(11-24-25) – New crew means a different look.

That’s how Woodbine girls’ basketball Coach Ryan Coenen sees it as he’ll have just nine players on his roster, five of which are freshman for the 2025-26 campaign.

“We're basically missing our starting five from last year. However, it is giving us an opportunity to get kind of what the next phase of Woodbine Girls basketball is going to end up being with this freshman class coming in.”

Last year’s leading scorer, Charlie Pryor, graduated along with Danyelle Steinkuehler, accounting for 32 of the Tigers 58.2 PPG they averaged as a team that went 16-7 a season ago. They’ve also lost Katy Pryor and Bridgette Kelley to injuries to start the season.

One starting piece returning is Taylor Hoefer, who averaged 12.4 PPG her senior year. Coenen is looking to her for leadership, especially since her mentality is similar to his.

“The underclassmen know that she's kind of the spark. You know, stay on Tay's good side. However, if you're staying on her good side, it means you're playing high quality basketball and you're communicating. She reminds me of a younger version of me. There's no fluff around her.”

With five freshman to teach this season, Coenen says he enjoys the opportunity to show them his way basketball play.

“They've got a great attitude. They don't think they're too good to do something. Sometimes they just they know so little, they don't even know what they're doing wrong, you know, but getting to go through and actually teach quality man-to-man defense and what it takes to actually, you know, compete at the varsity level.”

Woodbine will host AHSTW to open their girls’ basketball season on Monday.
