Offense Struggles in 2nd Half as Cyclone Girls’ BKB Falls to CRB, 53-39 -

(1-27-26) – A special matinee contest at the Casey’s Center in Des Moines had Harlan Community playing Coon Rapids-Bayard in girls’ basketball and the Cyclones offense struggled in the 2nd half as the Crusaders held them to just four 3rd qtr points and Harlan Community drops a 53-39 decision to Coon Rapids-Bayard.

Cyclones got off to a strong start, jumping out to 5-0 lead before allowing an 8-0 run to let the Crusaders get out in front. Harlan Community was unable to slow down Ella Heithoff, who scored 14 of the 18 points for on the game in the 1st qtr for CBR, including a buzzer-beating 3-ptr that made it a 6-pt game.

The Cyclones kept the game close in the 2nd qtr getting balance on offense Addi Wicks, Brin Van Baale, and Kenzley Bruck, who would each score 6pts in the first half, and they’d only be down 8 pts at the half.

But the trio scored just 2 pts each the rest of the way as Harlan Community could only get 13-pts in the 2nd half. Wicks, Van Baale, & Bruck all finished with 8 pts for the Cyclones.

The Crusaders also got 14 pts from Anna Hart, who spurred her team’s offense in the 2nd half.

Harlan Community will look to get back on the winning track Tuesday when the face Denison-Schleswig in a Hawkeye Ten contest at home Tuesday.
