Post Play, Stifling D Give Cyclone Girls’ BB Interstate Win Over Maryville -

(1-30-25) – The posts were pounding the boards for the Cyclones Thursday.

Kenzley Bruck and Grace Albertsen combined for 41 pts as Harlan Community earned a 67-55 win over Maryville (MO).

Cyclones used their height to their advantage early to race out to a 13-pt first half lead. Their half-court defense helped create turnovers that led to transition buckets.

Bruck, who finished with 20 pts, feels the team is really coming together to finish the season.

“I think we're just trying to work harder every day like there's definitely days where we work super well together and there's just off days, but we're super connected, We’re like one big family and if we just keep moving on like we are, we'll make it pretty far.”

Cyclone girls’ basketball Coach Zach Klaassen said that halftime adjustments showed improved passing for his team.

“At halftime, we talked about getting some reversals. I thought that we've kind of just got the ball going slow and we stayed on one side of the floor a little bit too much after they went to that zone against us. In man, we've just kind of went inside right away and we didn't have to be patient. But with that zone, we needed to be patient, get a couple reversals and I thought we did a good job of that.”

Claire Walter led the Spoofhounds with 17 points while Jalea Price scored 16 points, including the 1000th point of her career. Maryville had nine 3-ptrs in the contest to keep them in the game.

Harlan Community got 21 from Albertsen and Aubrey Schwieso put up 19. Schwieso now 4 points away from 1000 in her career and will get her chance to reach that mark tonight at The Palace against Creston.
