Schafer K’s 7, Homers as Riverside Routs Underwood, 18-1 -

(6-2-26) – The “Schafer Show” was on full display for the Bulldogs Tuesday.

Riverside’s Peyton Schafer struck out 7 and gave up no earned runs in four innings of work in an 18-1 victory over Underwood. Schafer said she strategy in negotiating their lineup was simple.

“They like to crowd the plate a lot. So, I think we just kind of jammed them inside and that was working well. I threw a couple screwballs and that just got a lot of swings and misses.”

It was Schafer who got the offense rolling in the 2nd as she started the inning with a solo home run, her 1st on the season.

“I was looking for a hit because I have been struggling,” Schafer admitted. “I was like, I just need to keep my way back and I just need to get on base and eventually that just rallied into a bunch of hits.”

That homer sparked a 10-run inning, that saw 13 batters come to the plate and 7 score with two outs in the inning. The Bulldogs would then tack on 7 more runs in the 3rd. Schafer went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI for the game.

Even though her team staked her to a large lead, Schafer wasn’t about to give in the Eagles lineup while in the circle.

“My mentality is like, it's not over. They can come back at any point and they can win this game. They're in it as much as we are at this point.”

Schafer would give up just one unearned run in the 4th before striking out the final two batters of the game for the win. During the contest, she recorded the 300th strikeout of her career.

Kloey Colton drove in the only run for the Eagles on a fielder’s choice that scored Lillie Robertson after she reached third on a single and 2-base error.

Riverside improved to 3-2 on the season while Underwood fell to 2-6.
