Season Ends for Lo-Ma Softball with 7-2 Loss in 2A State Tourney -
(7-20-22) - The Logan-Magnolia softball season ended Wednesday with the second consecutive loss at Class 2A State Tournament, falling to Louisa-Muscatine, 7-2.
Despite the losses in their final two games, Coach Rick McHugh was pleased the way his team performed this season.
"As far as the season goes, I think they had a great season. You know, our goal was to get (to the State Tournament) and it's awfully hard to get here. Now, once we were here, we got the experience of maybe getting to play on the big stage."
The Panthers fell behind early as the first three Falcons reached base on a walk and two hits, leading to 3-0 1st inning lead. Katie Troxel would drive in a run to cut the deficit to 2 in the 4th, but 4 runs in the 6th by Louisa-Muscatine would put the game out reach.
Abby Hiatt would have 7 runs scored on her for the second consecutive game, 4 of which were earned. She was solid in the middle innings, working her way out of jams
Troxel would drive in both runs for Logan-Magnolia going 2 for 3. Senior Samantha Yoder was 3 for 4 in final game while fellow senior Erikah Rife went 1 for 2 with a run scored. While the ending was what she wanted, Rife enjoyed the success of this 2022 team.
"This was probably the most fun that I've ever had in my softball career," Rife told KNOD Sports after the game. "This team was definitely a family, so being here was just a blessing."
Logan-Magnolia finishes their season 28-2.
