Sisson Shuts Down LC, Late Hit by Kjergaard Give Cyclone BB the Win, 4-1 -

(6-4-26) – They’re just WILD about Harry… well, maybe not Lewis Central.

Harrison Kjergaard’s 2-run double in the 7th sparked a 3-run inning that led Harlan Community to a 4-1 victory over their Hawkeye Ten rivals Thursday. Kjergaard said he and his teammates want to continue to put pressure on the opposition.

“Really, we think attack, attack, attack. That's all we think,” said Kjergaard after the Cyclones fourth win in their past five games. “We don't think much more than that because overthinking will kill us in high pressure games like this. So, just attacking the ball early. Attacking hitters on the mound, just like (Gavin) Sisson did tonight, ends up well.”

Sisson was brilliant, taking a no-hitter into the 6th and allowed just an infield single on one unearned run on the evening. Harlan Community Coach Heath Stein was proud of the sophomore’s outing.

“Gavin's very composed on the mound and he can execute multiple pitches in different counts, which makes it really hard to time up. So when he's on, he's executing that changeup with the curveball and along with the fastball and throwing them all where they want, he's very, very tough on hitters.”

Jacob Spangenberg was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Colton Schneider got his 2nd save of the season.

After 10 games this season, Stein thinks his team has room for improvement, but getting a win against a tough rival like the Titans is something to enjoy.

“(There’s) a lot of room for growth in our approaches and consistency on the mound and our approaches at the plate and a lot of things to clean up. But this was a heck of a win tonight and we should feel good about it and then move on in next week.”

Kjergaard knows the victory over Lewis Central is a huge boost for himself and his teammates.

“This is a big confidence boost. We've had some guys struggling at the plate, overthinking, but tonight, tonight really, really brought it out of us attacking the ball.”

Harlan Community will next take on Glenwood at home in a doubleheader on Monday.
