Solid Outings by Eck, Sisson, Push Cyclone Baseball to Sweep of Glenwood –

(6-9-25) - The power of Gavin-squared guided the Cyclones on the mound Monday.

Gavin Sisson struck out 6 in 4 scoreless innings of work to get the win in Game 2 by a 5-2. Meanwhile, Gavin Eck went 5 shutout innings in Game 1, giving up just 2 hits in a 13-nothing blowout as Harlan Community swept Glenwood in the double dip.

Sisson battled with traffic on the base paths and appreciated his teammates breaking through in Game 2 to support him.

“Curveball wasn't really hitting, so it just had to work the fastball, keep it in the zone. Towards the end, I was trying to switch from stretch to wind up and, you know, then my guys came out here and scored five runs so, it really feels great.”

Eck had a 7-0 lead in Game 1 before throwing his first pitch. But he remained focused on what he wanted to accomplish in this outing.

“I tried to keep my pitch count down because last two outings I've had over 100, so I just tried to keep it down and attack these hitters.”

Cyclone Coach Heath Stein was pleased with Eck’s outing.

“Best start by Gavin Eck that he’s had. We talked efficiency with him and he was all over the plate early in counts, not going to full count with everybody and he did a very good job.”

Cade Nelson, 2 for 6 with 4 RBI, while Foxx Argotsinger and Jonas Reynolds each drove in 3 runs in the doubleheader.

Harlan Community now has two days off to work on things and Stein wants his players to take advantage of that time.

“We actually touched on it in the huddle after the game. We have two practice days in a row, which doesn't happen like all year long. So, we need to be productive with those practice days.”

Using just three pitchers in the doubleheader also has Stein’s pitching ready for the rest of the week.

“The good outings from our starters really set up all week. We have Denison on Thursday and then we head to Fort Dodge and Saturday for Iowa City West and Emmetsburg. So, we’re sitting nice.”
