St. Albert BB Uses Quality Pitching, At-Bats to Beat Boyer Valley, 7-2 -

(7-3-26) – His teammates call him, “Hollywood” and he was certainly a star for the Falcons on Friday.

Connor Holly was 3- 4 with an RBI and threw 5 shutout innings of shutout ball as St. Albert topped Boyer Valley, 7-2.

Seven of the 15 outs recorded by Holly were groundouts as he made sure he stayed ahead of the hitters on the mound.

“Really, I was just focusing on throwing strikes. That's a big part of it,” said Holly after earning his 4th win on the season. “Walks kill innings. So, throwing strikes is a big part. If they hit the ball, I know my defense will do the job most of the time.”

The Falcons took advantage of several miscues to score in the 2nd. With two outs, Hank Turner singled, followed by back-to-back errors to load the bases. Brek Gentile and Benny Johnsen would get back-to-back singles and St. Albert took a 3-run lead.

That lead was enough to allow Holly to take command on the mound.

“Having a big lead really helps on the mound. Feel more calm. You don't have to like worry about giving up as many and you just got to keep dealing and not let them come back.

St. Albert would let get three more runs  in the 4th on four consecutives hits, and one more in the 5th. All seven of the Falcons runs came with 2 outs in the inning.

Boyer Valley had an RBI single from Logan Thomsen, who went 5 innings and gave up just 4 earned runs in his final game as a Bulldog. Boyer Valley finishes their season 10-12.

Despite an 8-28 record on the season, Holly feels the Falcons know how to win and are headed in the right direction.

“It's always been there. It's been kind of an energy thing and we're on the rise right now. It's been going good.”

St. Albert will face Logan-Magnolia in the 1A-2 District Quarterfinals on Tuesday.
