Tri-Center Runs Away with Regional Win over West Harrison, 63-29 -

(2-9-23) – Strong team effort allows Tri-Center to cruise into the 2nd round of regionals.

The Trojans got 27 points off their bench to stop West Harrison 63-29 in their Class 1A-Region 5 opener.

Quincey Schneckloth led Tri-Center with 14 pts, 10 in the 2nd-half. She talked to KNOD Sports after the game about changes the Trojans made to create more turnovers.

“We went to a triangle-and-two defense to try and shut down their main shooters and helped get a lot of deflections and steals that led to layups.”

Tri-Center’s Cassidy Cunningham and Avilyn Killpack each had 10 pts apiece off the bench. Brooke Daughenbaugh rounded out four Trojans in double-figures.

The Hawkeyes got off to a good start tying the score at 9-9 with 2 minutes left in the 1st qtr before the Trojans went on a 12-0 run and opened up the game before halftime.

Tri-Center Coach Derek Sonderland said his team made adjustments in how they guarded West Harrison’s Maclayn Houston, holding to just 14 pts.

“I thought as the game went on, we were able to buy back into the scouting report and be able to take her away.”

Tri-Center will face CAM on Tuesday in the Class 1A-Region 5 quarterfinals. West Harrison finishes their season 3-20.
