Trojans SB Marches On, Beats SW Valley in Regional Opener, 16-0 –

(7-6-26) – The Trojans took care of business to open postseason play Monday.

Addy Atanasu was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI as Tri-Center softball rolled to a 16-0 win over Southwest Valley in Class 2A-Region 4 opener.

Atanasu got the scoring started with an RBI double in 1st to score Kari Plambeck after a 1 out walk. She would then score on a wild pitch and the Trojans would get 2 more in the inning to take a 4-0 lead.

Atanasu simplified her approach at the plate.

“My approach to the plate today was just to make sure I'm hitting down through and getting base hits.”

The four runs would be plenty for Caitlin Greiner had 11 strikeouts in 4 shutout innings of work for the Trojans. The Timberwolves would load the bases with one out in the 2nd on a pair of walks and a single by Lyssa Anderson, but Greiner would strikeout the next two batters to get out of the jam.

The escape artistry of Greiner gave Tri-Center momentum and they would send 14 batters to plate in the bottom of the inning, scoring 11 runs, capped off by Atanasu’s 2 RBI single.

Southwest Valley finishes their season at 0-20.

The Trojans have now won of four of the past six games. Greiner says that a sense of camaraderie with her teammates has been a driving force for her this season.

“I just want my team to do the best, so I try to do my best for them and just keep grinding away in the circle and that's what's getting us this far,” said Greiner after earning her 9th win on the season. “They have my back and I have theirs, so we just keep working.”

Atanasu has enjoyed the atmosphere with this team and believes it’s helped her thrive.

“It's been really good. I've had a lot of fun with it. I like the girls and they all have a really good positive energy and are really kind to everybody.”

Tri-Center will meet up with Western Iowa Conference rival Logan-Magnolia on Wednesday.
