Underwood, Mo Valley Reach WIC Volleyball Semis –

(10-13-25) – Two teams march on, but it could have gone differently in both.

Underwood skimmed by Logan-Magnolia in straight sets, but only by a total of 7 points, while Missouri Valley beat higher seeded IKM-Manning in 4 sets in the first round of the Western Iowa Conference Volleyball Tournament Monday.

Carly Nelson had 13 kills for the Eagles as they earned a straight-set victory over the Panthers, 25-22, 25-23, 26-24. Nelson felt the defense came up big for her team in the win.

“They beat us (earlier this season) obviously, so we knew like it was going to take a lot and they're a good team over there. They have a great middle and we just kind of needed to stop her and I think just having good defense and just playing together really helped us.”

Underwood freshman setter Stella Wiech, who had 32 assists, says listening to her hitters has been important for their success.

“I just need to listen to them and listen to their feedback so I can give them the ball that they need.”

Logan-Magnolia’s Lindsey Kastner had 12 kills in the loss.

Match 2 from Manning had Missouri Valley vs IKM-Manning and great defense and wild rallies led to the Lady Reds down the No. 2 seeded Wolves, 3-1, 25-20, 25-22, 17-25, 25-17.

Libero Emerson Anderson and Dilynn Myler combined for 55 digs, many of which saved crucial points for Missouri Valley in the contest. Thirteen service aces, including four by Claire Myler, also helped the Lady Reds.

Khloe Stoops had 18 kills for the Lady Reds. Stoops feels a change in mentality has helped Missouri Valley on their recent success.

“In the middle of the season, we were playing not to lose, but now we're playing to win, and I feel like we’ve built our confidence (up).”

Freshman Dilynn Myler contributed 13 kills for the Lady Reds. Stoops talked about how she’s help Dilynn through her first year at the varsity level.

“Dylan's young, so she's kind of still working with her confidence. So, I'm trying to teach her to build her up and so then she can outstand most people and I know she can play good.

“So I just try and boost her up. I try and hype her up because I know she needs it, especially after a bad game, I know she needs it. I teach her some shots and she knows what to do.”

IKM-Manning was led by Keagan Eischeid with 11 kills.

Missouri Valley face Treynor while Underwood will play Riverside in the WIC Tournament Semifinals Tuesday.
