Underwood SB Upsets AHSTW in Regional QF, 6-2 -

(7-8-26) – You could say… they were due.

Underwood ended their 13-game losing streak getting a masterful performance in the circle from Brooklyn Drake to earn a 6-2 over AHSTW in the 2A-Region 4 quarterfinals Wednesday.

The Eagles had struggled with allowing runs for much of the season, including in their two previous games against the Lady Vikes were they allowed 29 runs.

But Drake handled the AHSTW lineup, stranding 6 runners through the first 6 innings of the game. Drake credited her teammates for making plays in the field.

“We knew that in the early season, we could battle with them, so I really was just pushing my hardest to throw strikes, and thankfully my defense was there for me.”

Drake went 7 innings and gave up 2 unearned runs in leading the Eagles to victory.

While Drake was dealing, the Eagles offense scraped together runs and took advantage of miscues to build a lead. A two-out single by Lilly McHenry drove in their first run in the 2nd. They then got a run on a throwing error in the 3rd and three runs, helped by three errors in the 4th, to build a 5-0 lead.

Underwood’s Bella Buckholdt and Lilly McHenry each had 2 hits and an RBI. Their 6 runs are the most they’ve scored in a single game since June 25th.

The Lady Vikes Bella Lamp had 2 hits and 2 RBI in the loss as AHSTW finishes their season 10-15.

Despite a difficult season where they’re now 5-20, Drake feels the friendships built are helping them enjoy the game and gives them the electricity to play their best.

“We are all really good friends and we have good sportsmanship towards each other. So we get along a lot and so we just come happy and excited and weather the outcome. We just want to hit and hopefully do our best.”

Underwood will look to take their best on the road again when they face Logan-Magnolia on Friday in the 2A-Region 4 Semifinals.
