UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Woodbine Boys’ BB Returns to State w/ Win Over CRB, 50-41 -

(3-1-25) – The Tigers were on a mission to get back to “The Well.” On Saturday, they succeeded.

Brody Pryor had 10 pts and 7 rebounds to help lead Woodbine to a 50-41 victory over Rolling Valley rival Coon Rapids-Bayard and reach the Class 1A State Tournament for a 2nd consecutive year. Pryor said his team was determined to return to Wells Fargo after last year’s early exit.

“We went there last year and we lost first round and we're all telling ourselves, ‘There's unfinished business.’ We're like, we all came home and just got to put the work in and we knew we were going to come back this year.”

It’s the first time since 1995-96 that the Tigers has reached the State Tournament in consecutive seasons. Carson Kelley led Woodbine with 12 pts, all on 3-ptrs. Kelley’s thoughts on this trip to Wells Fargo Arena are simple.

“Just be prepared for the moment and get ready for it.”

Woodbine used a 7-0 run in the 1st qtr to open up an 8-pt lead that they wouldn't relenquish. They would used the long ball to extend their lead, hitting seven 3-ptrs on the evening, five in the 1st half.

The closest the Crusaders would get is 6 pts midway through the 4th qtr, but a 5-0 run by Woodbine, including a 3-pt play by Jax Pryor would extend the lead back to 11 quickly.

But rebounds was the big story as the Tigers owned the offensive boards. Woodbine would outrebound Coon Rapids-Bayard 29-14 overall.

For Tigers Coach Kyle Bartels, his focus is playing their next game.

“Next game up. That’s the only thing that matters is whoever’s on that other side of the bracket that we gotta play. We gotta get prepared for them and gotta take care of business. Nobody in Woodbine’s ever won a game before at the State Tournament on the boys’ side. That’s our goal. Go down there and win one and then move to the next game.”

The Crusaders got 19 points from Cal Heydon, 18 of them in the 2nd half. They finish their season 22-3.

Woodbine (23-2) will be the No. 6-seed in the 1A State Tournament and will play 3rd-seeded St. Edmond on Wednesday, March 12th, at 3:45pm.
