Viking Football Spotlight: Luke Sternberg –

(8-23-24) – When you peel back the layers, AHSTW had a terrific 2023 season.

Tailback Luke Sternberg knows his Viking team was better than last year’s 6-4 record and they plan on using that as motivation for this season.

“A lot of our games were close games, and there was, like, something holding us back and weren't able to get over the hump. So you know, those definitely stung and we're 100% using those as motivation this year.”

Sternberg is looking to be a more vocal leader this season for his Vikings Squad.

“We have all different types of leaders on our team, you know, even the ones that are like cut more quiet, you know they're expected and they get their message across. But really I've just had to been more vocal and make sure like to guide our team in the in the right direction.”

Teammates from previous seasons have helped inspire the type of leader Sternberg wants to be.

“Those older classes that I've fortunately had the chance to be a part of, you know? Just taking bits and pieces from all those different guys, like Nick Denning last year. Or like Kyle (Sternberg), Cole (Scheffler), or Brayden (Lund) or even like my freshman year like a Raydden Grobe. All of those guys have kind of molded me into the leader that I try to be or am today.”

Sternberg thinks that the experience of playing a Class 1A football slate also prepares them for their schedule.

“Last year was our first year in Class 1A football as we were (Class) A the year before. And so now that we know what that physicality and what the demands are for that, we're just trying to exceed that right now with our play.”

AHSTW will begin their 2024 season with a match-up against Tri-Center on August 30th.
