Vikings D Steps Up to Beat Mo Valley to Open Football Season, 30-7 –

(8-21-26) – The defense would start and end the scoring for AHSTW.

The Vikings got an early pick-6 from Sam Sturm set the tone and roll to a 30-7 victory over Missouri Valley to start the 2026 High School Football season. Sturm gave credit to a teammate for giving him the opportunity to make the play.

“My D-end, Jackson Jensen, he went and pressured the quarterback. He ended up tipping the ball up. I saw the ball, I was like, I gotta get that. I went and got it, and I took that all the way back for pick six.”

It was the first of two interceptions for Sturm in the game. Strum knows how important is was for his Vikings team to get on the board early.

“I believe that is one of the best ways that we can get momentum going and everyone's encouraged and everyone just wants to take down Missouri Valley.”

Missouri Valley answered right back with 9 play, 53 yd drive ending in a 21 yd TD reception by Jack Handlos from starting quarterback Dylan Davis. The extra point would give the Big Reds a 7-6 lead with 5:29 left in the 1st qtr.

That would be as close as they’d get.

AHSTW would score 24 unanswered points the rest of the way, starting three plays later when a missed assignment defensively by Missouri Valley would allow Cooper Robinson to go free and haul in a pass from Dayton Osbahr for 77 yd TD reception and put the Vikings back out in front.

Osbahr then connected with Evan Harder twice, from 27 yds out in the 2nd qtr and 19 yds in the 4th qtr to extend the lead. Osbahr finished with 195 passing yards and 3 TD’s.

The scoring would end on a blocked punt by Hayden Gubbels that went out the back of the end zone for a safety.

Sturm says it’s about communication and execution that makes the Vikings so effective on defense.

“I'm the one getting all the play calls, so I'm making sure that Dean Lyon knows what they're doing. Linebackers, (defensive backs) and safeties. Got to make sure everyone knows what they're doing and we go out there and we execute it and we play and we perform well.”

Davis had 133 passing yards, a TD, and 2 INT’s, before being carted off the field after taking a hit trying to make a tackle on defense for the Big Reds late in the 3rd qtr.

AHSTW will travel to face Logan-Magnolia next week, while Missouri Valley takes on MVAOCOU on the road.
