Woodbine Falls in Final Seconds to Bishop Garrigan in State Championship Game -

(11-20-25) – 9 seconds away.

That was how close Woodbine came to their first state football title. Ethan Marso scored with :09 remaining to tie the game then Tate Foertsch would convert the 2-pt conversion to give Bishop Garrigan a 44-42 victory in the 8-Player State Championship Game Thursday.

“Guys played their hearts out,” Tigers Coach Dustin Crook told KNOD Sports following the game. “Tough loss to be able to end the season that way. Hat's off to Bishop to make the plays down the stretch. We just came up short to make the plays.”

The championship game had the two best teams in 8-Player duking it out and that’s how it played out on the field, according to Woodbine QB Brody Pryor.

“It was a battle,” said Pryor. “Their offense is good, our offense is good. Their defense is good, our defense is good. It's the last two teams last, so we knew everyone's going to be good, and we just got to execute… it just didn't go our way.”

The Tigers took a 22-pt lead into the 4th qtr before the Golden Bears began their rally, as Marso would score with 9:54 left. He then intercepted a Pryor pass to the Woodbine 30, where Foertsch score on an 8-yd run. He’d add a 9-yd run with 2:26 left to tie the game at 36-36.

It took Woodbine just 1:17 to march down field and score on a 1-yd TD run by Micah Moores with 1:09 remaining, but the 2-pt conversion failed giving the Tigers a 6-pt lead.

Defensively, Joe Freund tied with Cal Pryor for the team lead with 14 tackles. Crook knows what his senior defender brought to the field.

“He’s brings the heart of our defense. His mentality and his attitude… Does a great job. Good leader. Understands the game. High IQ. (I’m) proud of him.”

Pryor threw for 214 yds and 3 TD, two to Landon Blum, who caught 8 passes for 116 yds to finish with 1049 yds receiving on the season. Moores rushed 21 times for 106 yds and 3 TD. He appreciates the memories created from this season.

“The biggest part was just spending more time with all the guys and getting to see the community travel for us and the pep rally, getting to see them all support us. Yeah, just I'll never forget being with everyone.”

Woodbine football finishes their season 11-1.
