Young Lady Vikes BB Squad Looking to Take Next Step –

(11-23-25) – It was a learning process, but AHSTW girls’ basketball was able to make some strides last season, according Lady Vikes Coach Jason McCall.

“We had to learn at a fast pace and for a lot of us, the game was just too fast at the time,” said McCall to KNOD Sports. “That kind of comes with experience and getting to play at that varsity level. I think we took our lumps, but we never hung our heads, and we kept working and I thought they improved a lot throughout the season.”

AHSTW was able to win their first-round regional game against West Monona last season. They’ve taken that experience and used it to build confidence for his young team that finished 8-15 a season ago.

“They're very resilient and they keep fighting. They keep learning and I think we'll go into this year with a better mindset and a little bit more confidence, which is going to help us.”

Junior Bella Lamp returns as the Lady Vikes leading scorer, averaging 8.7 pts a game, and one of the team’s leaders. She’s progressing well after spending much of the offseason recovering from an injury.

“Obviously, that was a pretty severe injury that kept her out for many months. We're keeping an eye on things and making sure that she can stay healthy, especially at this point in the season. It's such a long year ,so we want to make sure that she's feeling her best and that we can keep her out on the floor.”

McCall is also looking for a solid sophomore campaign from Clara Pace, who averaged 6.4 pts and 5.9 rebounds per game last season.

“She's super smooth down in the post. She's a natural, gifted, talented athlete. I mean, she just knows how to get to her spots and play the game of basketball.”

Addison Carroll is another Lady Vikes player whose leadership McCall feels will be helpful for this season.

“She's someone that puts a lot of time in; works her tail off. Any chance she gets to practice or open gyms, whatever. So she's come a long ways and I think, slowly but surely, she's going to be a huge, huge, huge part of our offense throughout the year.”

AHSTW will begin their 2025-26 season on the road against Woodbine Monday.
