AHSTW’s Goshorn ‘Excited’ for Challenge of Rowing at Kansas State -

(5-3-24) – Delaney Goshorn can’t wait for the new challenges that face her at the next level. That includes trying things she’s never tried before.

On Friday, Goshorn signed her letter of intent to commit to Kansas State this fall… in rowing.

“A couple months ago, I was pretty set that I wasn't gonna continue my athletic career and I was in love with Kansas State. I was dead set on going there.”

That all changed when the Wildcats rowing program approached Goshorn about this unique opportunity.

“The K-State coaches reached out to me because they look for multi-sport athletes to be on the team. And I'm tall, so, they looked for height and then I went on a visit and it kind of just went from there and I fell in love with the program and their culture and the teammates, and I'm just really excited.”

Goshorn has participated in basketball, volleyball, and track, at AHSTW, at a high-level, taking home Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-District honors this year in volleyball, the past two seasons in basketball, and earning All-Academic honors in both sports this year.

But rowing is an activity in which she’s never been a participant. That’s also the case for many of her Wildcat teammates.

“I actually have never rowed and 99% of the Kansas State rowing commits have never rowed. They take multi-sport athletes and girls that have height and then they turn them into rowers. So, I'm really excited to try something new as well.”

Goshorn knows learning a new sport is never easy but is eager to get started and face the trials this new opportunity presents her.

“A lot of it is just teaching me the technique because I've never done it and it's a lot of conditioning. They compare it to running a cross-country race and powerlifting at the same time. I'm just really excited for the challenge and to get started.”

Goshorn says she plans to major in Ag Business with a minor in Animal Science.
