Cyclone SB Looking to Build Confidence After Loss to St. Albert, 11-0 -

(6-6-24) – Another rough night offensively for Cyclone softball.

Harlan Community would have just 4 runners reach base while St. Albert used to crooked innings to beat the Cyclones, 11-0.

Despite the loss, Cyclone Coach Tarah Devlin-Lawler says she thinks her girls are competing.

“We've been asking the girls to come out and compete, and they did that tonight. We've got to get our bats going and unfortunately it just didn't happen tonight for us, but we played well defensively and shout out to the Saintes for the two innings that they were able to score on us, but we're getting there. The girls are getting there.”

Harlan Community was only able to work 3 hits against St. Albert starter Alexis Narmi, while reliever Ella Narmi tossed two perfect innings. Lawler thinks the biggest issue with the offense right now is confidence.

“The girls want to play and they want to do well and they want to compete, so that's been a really good positive thing for us. We just got to get their confidence built up and not have them get down on themselves and they shouldn't get down on themselves. They're doing well but it's hard when you're getting down (in games). So we're going to continue to work on the confidence building and just see where we can go with them.”

Starter Lauren Schmitz gave up 6 runs in 3 innings of work, 5 of which came in a 3rd inning. The Saintes would get 5 more runs in the 6th off reliever Camryn Goshorn, all with 2 outs. Lawler stills sees how her pitchers have matured over the course of this season.

“They're both really young pitchers and so we have a lot of years left in them. So it's just getting them more confident on the mound and believing in themselves. And so that's something that we're working on with both of them.”

It will be another home test for Harlan Community on Monday when they host Glenwood in doubleheader action.
